So Royal Apothic officially launches in just one week and I can’t believe all that is happening. I will be traveling the country for the next couple of weeks appearing at events where I get to meet all of our amazing retailers. It’s a really exciting time but there is still alot to pull together. One thing I can check off my list is the official display. They arrived and the first one was installed today in our LA showroom. I am truly blown away by how it came out and still find it amazing that I can think of something, a simple idea, share it with craftsmen and voila, it appears. I’ve never gotten over the excitement of seeing something you dreamed up appear and it never gets less thrilling! In my mind, I wanted the display to be classic English with an edge and so I designed a unit that is lit by library sconces with roomy shelves. Here are some horrible pictures I snapped with my blackberry. We are still waiting on the smaller tester units I showed in earlier posts so please “mind the gap.” I’ll take some real pics next week at our Los Angeles meet and greet event.
Here’s a close up detail of the sconces….
I’ve mentioned before on the blog about the brilliant Terra Naomi (managed by the equally brilliant bestie Oliver)
To launch a preview of her new CD, they created a hilarious site called getfreevicodin.com and its begun to go viral (DONT WORRY, it’s not real drugs) To hear the amazing single and to get it for free, just click here
The song is beautiful and has been playing on loop in the Apothic for quite a few weeks.
Super swamped here but lots going on and that’s when I am happiest! My assistant Ryan sent me a link from the other side of the office and begun a countdown to see how long it would take me to laugh! (21 seconds) It’s too good not to pass on. All around me know my infatuation with Chanel and a new blog has popped up written by none other than Uncle Karl. Well, not really Uncle Karl, but still definitely good!
Check it out here
So the blog has been getting lots of traffic lately (Thanks to all those who have linked in!!) Ever trying to be the technologically advanced CEO, I was poking around our statistics and cam across this list of search terms used to find us….
I’m slightly worried
So with the entire Royal Apothic team camped out in the bungalow that serves as our offices, I am up to my neck in boxes, bottles, computers and papers!! I have been out with the realtor alot and am looking for a property that will not only allow all of us some space, but will also serve as a new project to keep me busy. (as if there isn’t enough to do already!) I have some ideas and a vision but definitely need an old house to test them out on.
Last week, on my way to an appointment, I took a wrong turn and got lost. Trying to make my way back, I cam upon the most amazing house set back upon a giant house. The “chateau” was completely out of place and looked like it had been picked up from the English countryside and dropped into the middle of California. Needless to say, I am in love and have begun to scheme for ways to convince the current owners that this is definitely the time to sell.
Surfing the web the other night, I came upon the images of a perfect addition for the backyard at “Chateau Apothic” and had to share them here. Manufactured by a company in England, the Gypsy Caravan is completely bespoke and outfitted to your needs. I think it will be the perfect office for me and I am in the process of picking finishes. Who says I don’t move fast!

So very rarely do I share fragrances that I am still working on. I consider the different versions timeless secrets to be held in my lab, disposed of once the final formulation is reached. This breathtaking video has caused me to make an exception….. For two years I have been working on a scent that is still unfinished. Countless versions and modifications have been made, endless hours spent mixing and tinkering. A little more jasmine, less gardenia, a touch of chocolate and a hint of champagne, how do I capture the scent of a persian rug mix mixed with sun streaming in on a French afternoon?? In my mind’s eye I can smell it, yet how do I combine oils and chemicals to create it. This is my challenge and one I tackle with every Royal Apothic scent. Despite the challenge of creation, the inspiration for this particular concoction is quite clear
For years, Coco Chanel lived at the Ritz Hotel in Paris. Most don’t realize she always had the same room. Checking in and checking out, she demanded it remain always the same. Her room: Suite 302. The aura of Suite 302 is my goal and this new video has inspired me to continue my journey of capturing that olfactory experience no matter how many versions it takes. I have no clue how close to completion I am, but rest assured oh faithful blog readers, you will be the first to know!
So I am back in LA for a few days and love the Spring weather. It’s cool and crisp in the mornings and warm in the afternoons. We have been burning our Japonesque fragrance which will be the next Explore the Fragrance later in the week. In the meantime, enjoy this vintage BBC clip from April Fools day 1957. The station was flooded with calls about where to purchase Spaghetti trees!
